Three Companion Books for "Watchmen" movie

(photo from www.watchmencomicmovie.com)

There will be three "companion" books for the "Watchmen" film which stars Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Billy Crudup, Malin Ackerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Matthew Goode, and Carla Gugino. According to Amazon.com, the books will be available starting February 10, 2009. The film is scheduled to be released March 6, 2009.

"Titan Books has released the covers to their upcoming Watchmen books.
First up is "Watchmen: Official Film Companion" by Peter Aperlo, which Titan describes as:

"Released a month before the movie hits cinema screens, Watchmen: Official Film Companion takes viewers inside this colossal movie with exclusive cast and crew interviews and more than 200 color photographs. "

It is the most eagerly awaited comics-to-film adaptation of them all. The graphic novel that changed an industry is now a film, directed by Zack Snyder (300), and Watchmen: The Official Film Companion is the essential guide to this cinematic event. A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 in which costumed super heroes are part of the fabric of everyday American society. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present super heroes. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the Watchmen?

Featuring exclusive interviews with the cast and crew, and scores of photos, this is the comprehensive guide to the new movie event.

No "Barry Munday" at 2009 Sundance Film Festival

"Barry Munday" didn't make it into the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Boo.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i4386920ea4 40276dcde41baf7b7524e3

But, as Patrick Wilson told us when we were in NYC in mid-November: if not Sundance, then will be other festivals.

Let's keep our eyes/ears open for it being screened at a festival in early/spring 2008. And keep our fingers crossed that it snags a strong distributor.

I'm REALLY surprised it wasn't included. The book on which is based ("Life is a Strange Place") is fun, cute, and even heartwarming. And, the movie's cast is amazing.

It definitely deserves recognition on the festival circuit!

Countdown for Patrick Wilson Projects

Just 7 days until they begin announcing the films that have been accepted for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Fingers crossed that "Barry Munday" makes the list! The festival begins on Thursday, January 15, 2009.

Just 46 days until "All My Son" closes on Broadway (Sunday, January 11, 2009). If you have the opportunity to see this wonderful production at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre--DO IT. The staging is so innovative--I loved it. And, the cast is top-rate. John Lithgow and Patrick Wilson are so worth the price of the ticket. Dianne Wiest has received rave reviews. She was out when I saw the show but her understudy, Lizbeth Mackay, was amazing. She was more than equal to the task. Katie Holmes may not be a stage veteran but she's earnest in her portrayal and works very hard. A real "must-see" production.

Just 48 days until the DVD/Blu-Ray release of "Lakeview Terrace" is released (Tuesday, January 13, 2009) Special features are included so hopefully we'll get to hear Patrick, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kerry Washington's thoughts on this story.

Just 100 days until "Watchmen" rocks the movie world (Friday, March 6, 2009). Patrick in a dual role as Dan Drieberg his alter ego, costumed hero Night Owl II.

Plus..."Passengers" should have a DVD release in the near future, too.

LOGO network airing "Angels in America"

Last night we discovered that the LOGO cable network is airing the HBO mini-series adaptation of "Angels in America" this week. It was a two-hour time slot (10pm-midnight) and we found it about 11:30pm. It was near the end of Chapter 4.

It looks like they may have been running two chapters per night. If so, then tonight may be a chance to see the final two chapters. It looked like it will be in the same time slot (10pm-midnight). Check your local listings for details.

This is an amazing piece of cinema and the way many of us discovered Patrick Wilson!

Patrick on cover of "Entertainment Weekly"!

Isn't it great! A shot of Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet in "Little Children" is part of the cover artwork in the new Entertainment Weekly's new issue "Fifty Sexiest Movies Ever". Ironically the shot is from a scene which was cut from the final version. It's from when Brad ditches the bar exam and sneaks away with Sarah. It's in the book but not in the movie.

Woo Hoo! Congrats to Patrick for being part of the cover of this issue of "Entertainment Weekly."

"Passengers"movie critics reviews--with positive comments!

Some reviews of "Passengers" are not as scathing as others. Here are a few that even have praise for Patrick's work...

And, remember, judge the film for yourself. More Patrick Wilsonfans are seeing it and really loving his performance in this film. If you are one of the lucky few who have it in your area, ignore the critics and give it a whirl! And please post over on our messageboard on the "Passengers Fan Reviews" there HERE.

LA Times:
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-passengers27-2008oct27,0,4817652.story

With praise for Patrick:

"The acting is generally good, with the likes of Dianne Wiest and Andre Braugher helping to class up the thing. Wilson fares best, delivering a layered performance as a man trying to understand things that can't be understood while newly awakened to the sharpness and sweetness of being alive. But if you're a Hathaway fan and can only see one movie this week, "Rachel Getting Married" is your better bet."

The Chicago Reader:

Passengers

This intelligent supernatural drama stars Anne Hathaway as a grief counselor who, assigned to work with a group of plane-crash survivors, becomes attracted to one of them (Patrick Wilson). Director Rodrigo Garcia moves the story along gradually, which helps to mitigate some of the more formulaic elements; the first half plays like a quirky romantic drama, giving barely an inkling of the paranormal events that follow. The surprise ending isn't as shocking as those of Jacob's Ladder or The Sixth Sense—two stellar examples of the genre—but it's still dramatically potent. Cinematographer Igor Jadue-Lillo renders the Vancouver locales in suitably austere monochrome. With David Morse, Andre Braugher, and Diane Wiest. PG-13, 94 min. (JK)

"what’s surprising is that it was even made at all. Consummate professionals Hathaway and Wilson do their part to disguise the film’s lack of energy or originality, with Wilson bringing a mischievous spark to his character that threatens to make things almost interesting. The duo even develop an easy chemistry"

"This I Know For Sure" Patrick Wilson in Nov 2008 "O" Magazine

The November 2008 issue of Oprah's "O" Magazine has a "These Things We Know" Feature and here is Patrick's contribution:

Patrick Wilson, on Marriage
Patrick Wilson is appearing in the Broadway production of "All My Sons" with Katie Holmes and in the film "Passengers".

I know three things for sure…

1. That no one says my name like my wife. I hear her say "Patrick Wilson," and I feel as if nobody's ever said it. That's never gone away.

2. That she has the most beautiful profile.

3. That no matter how late I put my son to bed, he will never sleep in.

Patrick Wilson featured in Sep 15 "American Way" magazine

The Sep 15, 2008 issue of American Airlines in-flight magazine "American Way" includes an article on "Patrick Wilson"!!! (It's the issue with Hugh Laurie a.ka. "House" on the cover.)

Patrick is in the [dl] section (pg 88):

http://www.americanwaymag.com/tabid/2855/tabidext/4158/default.aspx

Here's an excerpt:

"Though it's not all CGI explosions and billion-dollar price tags for the Virginia native these days, he's not exactly keeping a low profile. As Lakeview hits theaters, he'll be busy onstage in New York, doing Arthur Miller's All My Sons. The play is sure to attract a great deal of attention; it costars Katie Holmes.

His mixed workload keeps him bicoastal -- and sometimes away from his Brooklyn-based wife, stage actress Dagmara Dominczyk, and their two-year-old son, Kal -- but he's grateful for the chance to do both film and theater, especially given the intensity of a Broadway schedule.

"The time commitment to theater is more involved and takes a lot more planning," he says. "For theater, you have to say, `Okay, don't send me any scripts or auditions or meetings for the next six months because I'm going to do a play until the end of the year.'

"Theater is the greatest experience for an actor, I think. But I love movies, too," he adds. "Getting to do both is a pretty nice position to be in."

Patrick Wilson talks about taking on the role of "Night Owl II" in Watchmen

Here's a short blurb with Patrick talking about the role of "Night Owl II" and his audition.

"That being said, it’s clear that Wilson took the part of the world-weary superhero very seriously — a smart move, considering what could potentially be a star turn for the up-and-coming actor. And when he said he “did his homework,” he meant it, especially in terms of the look of his comic book counterpart — that of a depressed, ex-hero who has since let himself go.

“His physicality I was always completely conscious of,” said Wilson. “The drawing of him looking so sad and very dumpy with slumping shoulders…that’s very informative to me. When the guy takes his shirt off that’s not a fat dude. That’s a big dude who maybe got soft but he’s not just a big tub. It’s funny some people have a different interpretation of that. And I keyed into Alan Moore likening him to a soldier coming back from a war and feeling lost, not knowing his place in society. I was like, that I can dig into.”

Report from "All My Sons" Preview tonight

One of our wonderful moderators on the main site (Patrick Wilson Fans--The NEW UnOfficial Fan Site), Karen111 is on the phone with me right now from the "All My Sons" preview. She just saw the show and is outside the theater.

Celeb sitings: Karen111 saw Dustin Hoffman and had Tom Cruise brush by her! And, she also saw Patrick's wife, actress Dagmara Dominczyk sitting near her.

Out side the theater: MASSIVE crowd of press, paparazzi, protestors and police before and after the show.

The show itself: "WOW" is not a good enough word, she said, to describe the show.

"It's powerful and shocking. All performances were so "on" that you totally became part of the story. And, it is brilliantly staged." She said there was an immediate standing ovation at the end. "IMMEDIATE."

She didn't want to give away storyline or plot points but HIGHLY recomends this show as a DEFINITE MUST-SEE.

Karen111 promises she'll tell us more later on the messageboard over at Patrick Wilson Fans (the NEW UnOfficial Fan Site.)

Congratulations Patrick on what sounds like a fabulous night--and thanks, Karen11,1 for a fantastic frontline report!

Patrick Wilson talks to "Time Out-New York"

Here's a great interview Patrick gave to "Time Out-New York". You can tell he had a great time with this:

"How did you end up in All My Sons?

I met with the director, gee, several months ago. Heh—you do a play set in the ’40s and you start saying things like “swell” and “gee whiz!”

So, no profanity for you?
[Laughs] No, never. Actually, a lot of rehearsals feel like college again, like drama school. It’s nice to be refreshed on why you do this for a living.

Like drama school—as in trust falls and stuff?
Close. I mean, there’s a truth to all those drama-class stereotypes. But most of those things are geared toward camaraderie and trusting your cast. Even the trust fall has its place.

I feel like John Lithgow would drop me, just to be funny.
That’s why you have to work on your trust! You have trust issues, don’t you, Allison?

Busted. All My Sons is about war and profiteering. Is there any talk of pointing out the modern parallels?
The sad truth of it is that I don’t think you need to. The business of war is such a huge umbrella over all our heads. You don’t have to hammer it into people’s heads.

It’s kind of bleak.
With all of Arthur Miller’s plays, there’s the current of deconstruction of the family. I mean, it’s a hard sell. How do you sell Shakespeare? It’s Shakespeare. If we hold up our end of the bargain, it should be great. But I don’t think it’s a big downer.

How does Katie Holmes fit into the group?
She works in great. We’re all coming from very different backgrounds. We’re all in the same boat.

Is she comfortable taking on something as heavy as Arthur Miller her first time out?
Well, I’m not going to give answers for her… I thought these questions were going to be funny! You’re asking me about war, and Katie Holmes’s dramatic whatever. Come on!

Okay, I have a copy here of Time Out New York from December 2000, with you naked on the cover.
Yes. Now we’re talking."
